MUSIC
Thani has been writing songs for as long as they can remember but became interested in composing for theatre while studying at the University of Michigan, where they graduated with a Minor in Musical Theatre Composition under the guidance of Prof. Lynne Shankel.
Thani has a poetic musical and lyrical voice, drawing inspiration from the work of Joni Mitchell, Jewel, Anaïs Mitchell, and many emerging pop and folk artists. Thani hopes to use their unique voice as a queer, biracial, non-binary writer, to create space in musical theatre for intersectional identities and underrepresented stories.
Thani thrives on collaboration with other storytellers so head to the CONTACT page and get connected!

THE LAUGH OF THE MEDUSA
THE LAUGH OF THE MEDUSA is a new musical with music and lyrics by Thani Brant and a book by Thani Brant and Erica Ito. It is loosely based upon the Medusa myth and inspired by the 1975 feminist essay "The Laugh of the Medusa" by Hélène Cixous.
When the artist who made her starts playing God, a young woman escapes his world and builds her own, through the art of writing. In doing so, she rewrites not only her own story but the stories of many others. Are our lives cast in stone by our Makers or do we have the power to make our own way?
